In campus placements or recruitment of fresh college graduates, the best salaries are usually offered by the large well established companies. These companies prefer to hire students only from highly ranked universities and colleges, since they have stringent admission criteria. Most of these colleges only admit students who have got top grades in high school.
Thousands of students apply for the limited number of seats available in top ranked universities, since getting admission is a passport to success later in life. The universities also have a well established alumni network, which can be helpful later in life, especially for jobs where contacts are important. Unlike students from lower ranked colleges, who have to apply to many companies, before landing a job, students from top colleges receive multiple job offers even before they complete their college degree.
Getting good grades depends to some extent on your natural abilities, but there are many study skills which can be cultivated. These include basic reading and comprehension skills, learning skills and how to take tests.
